From intern to Sales Development Representative: How iconoClass changed my life in just 4 months! Follow Arthur's story about his journey to iconoClass and how he turned around his career within a few weeks and became a BDR!

My journey to iconoClass and the career path I’m enjoying as a result of its business development bootcamp, happened in a roundabout way. 

Technically, you could say my future career path was forged at the age of 18 when I read the book 80 men to change the world by Sylvain Darnil and Mathieu Leroux. The book was an account of Darnil and Leroux’s trip around the world to meet “alter-”entrepreneurs (antiglobalization entrepreneurs) that are reinventing their profession and creating sustainability oriented organisations for a fairer future. 

This piqued my interest in sustainability, which was further cemented on a gap year trip to Malaysia, where I spent 10 weeks volunteering at both environmental & social projects in the jungle.

 

Following my degree in Sustainability Management at the HEPN, I immediately looked for a job in the sustainability field and interned in various positions linked to carbon footprinting. However, I felt the work I was doing was very technical and I was lacking the people skills needed for me to be happy to go to work. 

By chance I was introduced to the sales side of business when I interned in a startup that organises societal hackathons and quickly realised this was an area I wanted to focus on. Around the same time I came across a TV interview with Marie Taquet, CEO of iconoClass and thought it sounded like a great opportunity to develop and hone my sales and interpersonal business skills. 

An intensive bootcamp appealed to me because it meant I wouldn’t be taking too much time out of employment, and the practical nature of the course was perfect for what I wanted to achieve; an insight into the mindset of a salesperson.

I decided to apply and within three months I’d left my job in Brussels and travelled to Paris for the four-month business bootcamp. The course was a complete game changer for me. I had four really intensive, but really great months. 

The programme is taught by experienced sales professionals in senior positions at major brands and fast-growth tech start-ups, so I got to learn directly from the best in the field. This along with the practical experience that makes up 80% of the iconoClass course, gave me a real insight into what it’s like to work in a busy sales team at a growing business.

As a result of taking the course I had job offers on a daily basis towards the end, but I held out for the perfect position in a sustainable firm, because I knew that thanks to iconoClass’s superior training programme, I could get the offer that matched me the most. In March, I was hired as a Sales Development Representative by FlexiDAO, a blockchain-based SaaS solution that solves the inefficiencies of the current 100% renewable energy claims by matching the energy production & consumption on an hourly basis. It’s the ultimate role for me because it allows me to combine my interest in sustainability & blockchain with the next level sales skills I learnt at iconoClass. 

What’s great is that being a start-up, FlexiDAO has allowed me to carve my own niche within the sales team and I’m actively contributing to a sales framework for the company based on the business development experience I gained at iconoClass. In just four months I’ve completely changed my life thanks to iconoClass. 

As of now, I’m confident about sales & business development. Although the learning never stops, my four month at Iconoclass have truly jump started my caree, both in experience, skills as job prospects!
